Zimmerama

My maiden name was Zimmerman.

Since I can remember, we have had a family reunion at least once a year (sometimes twice) and the festival of family fun is so appropriately called "Zimmerama".

And I love it.

My family kind of kicks ass.  All of them.  Even "druncle" Mark.

This past weekend we enjoyed another fun filled Zimmerama.  Included in the fun is always a "white elephant" gift exchange--basically people bring any crap they find at home or at thrift stores or wherever....then, everyone has to open one gift (in numeric order) in front of everyone, one at a time.  If it's clothing, you have to model it.  If you don't like your gift, you can exchange with someone else that has already opened theirs.

It's hilarious.

This year I ended up with a Spin the Bottle pin:

It could be fun. :)

Now, the best part about Zimmerama is this:

Yes, my friends, that is a genuine can of horsemeat.  Gross?  Yes.  Funny?  Uh, yeah.  This can has been circled back into our gift exchange for YEARS.  I mean, going back to when I was a little kid.  Every single year it comes back and seriously, if you end up getting the can of horsemeat, you've essentially "won" the white elephant exchange.  You nearly get a standing ovation.

And what's really funny is typically whoever wins it, doesn't exchange it.  It's like a Zimmerama trophy.

And so freakin' funny.

Something I love...#4

Actually, this is SOMEONE I love....

Not in a weird "I love him" kind of way.  But in a "I LOVE him" kind of way.

You know what I mean, right?

So, anyone know who this guy is??

This is Jeff Coffin.  Does that name ring a bell with anyone?

You may know him currently as the touring sax player for Dave Matthews Band and a member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (amongst MANY other things).

I know him (okay, no I don't KNOW him, know him) as a mighty fine sax player.  He's amazing.

I'm a sax player.  I bow down to him when I hear him play.

Here's a sampling of his work (with Bela Fleck).  If you don't want to listen to the entire thing, fast-forward to about the 1:40 mark and listen for about 20 seconds.

Damn.  I love him.

12 weeks and a couple days...

I forgot to tell my blogtastic friends--

I'm off the meds!!!!

Okay, that sounds like I'm off some sort of psych meds, which I was not on, for the record.  I'm talking Progesterone, Prometrium and Estrogen.

Look, injections and "insertions" aren't the end of the world.  They're just annoying.  If I had to do them the entire pregnancy, I would.

But I'm so very happy I don't!  My ars is thanking me already.

Also, I had my first OB visit today!!  It was great!!  Though I have been listening to the heartbeat at home, they still listen in the doc's office at every visit--and there "it" was, 172 beats per minute, sounding as beautiful as ever!

I think I've told you aobut my doc, but I'll say it again--he's awesome.  I haven't seen him since my 6-week post partum visit after I had London in 2009 (my subsequent "girl stuff that needs to get done" appointments happened with 2 different RE's since then).  I wasn't sure if he'd remember me or not.  Well, when he walked into the exam room literally jamming out to Styx on his cell phone I knew I was golden.

(as you likely know, I'm a huge Styx fan)

Overall, it was a great appointment, though I've been warned that I'm at a higher risk for gestational diabetes because A)I've had it once before (with Emerson, the middle child) and  B)apparently all risks are a little higher when you're carrying a child that's not really yours.  So, he told me to lay off the bagels and pasta.

Crap.

But hey, I'll do what I need to do.  Besides my own family, this child I'm carrying is one of the most important things to me.  I will do whatever needs to be done to ensure that both "it" and I are happy and healthy for the duration.  If that means cutting out some things, that's what I'll do.

12 Weeks!!

I know, can you believe it?? Me neither!

Everything in pregnancy land is going well. No complaints.

The only semi-exciting thing is my pants don't button anymore! Woo!
And, that's all I've got.

But I will share 2 photos with you.

The first is a picture of a "drawing" that London did on the Magna Doodle.  She claims is "mommy":

And after she erased the photo of me, she drew this:

I asked what it was and she said:  "a broken necklace"

I love that girl and her imagination.

More updates on Thursday after my first OB appointment!

Something I love...#3

I do.  I love this show.

And I got to see Grant (on the left) and Jason (on the right) last night!! They were at The Riverside Theater in Milwaukee --just the 2 of them talking about the show, their experiences and what not.  Elliot (my 6 year old) is a pretty big fan of the show as well, so we took him--and he loved it.  He thought it was so cool to see these guys in "real life".

Liebster Award!

I just put on my best ball gown to write this post.

As I walk up to the podium with my "theme song" playing the background....

And am presented with the LIEBSTER BLOG AWARD!!!

And there's the standing ovation.

(okay, I'm really not that full of myself.  But I'm sure my ball-gown would be really pretty if I actually owned one)

I would like to give a whole-hearted THANK YOU to my peeps Jeni from Love Makes a Family and Tonya from Baby Dreams for this most amazing award! I'm touched and honored!
The Liebster Blog Award is an award for bloggers with less than 200 followers who deserve more recognition.

Liebster is a German word that means ‘dearest’ or ‘beloved’, but can also mean ‘favorite’. The idea of the award is to bring attention to blogs with less than 200 followers.

The Award comes with a few rules. You’re supposed to:

  • Show your thanks to the blogger who gave you the award by linking back to them
  • Reveal your top 5 picks for the award and let them know by leaving a comment on their blog
  • Post the award on your blog
  • Bask in the love from the most supportive people in the blogosphere – other bloggers
  • Hope your recipients pass the award to their 5 favorite blogs to keep the love flowing
I'm beyond excited to accept this award and am proud to nominate 5 other blogs that deserve this most prestigious award as well.

I proudly pass the Liebster Blog Award to (I really wish I could pass it on to all the blogs I follow--that being said, please make sure you take a stroll down my "blogs I follow" list and check them all out!):

Momma Says the F Word.  Seriously, read it.  Whitni is an amazing writer and I promise you won't be disappointed.  She's hizzle-arious.

Jeff and Kevin-DC.  I'm pretty sure this blog's been nominated already. Probably over and over again.  But it deserves it.

News From the Handbasket.  I think what I love about Tans is that she uses big words.  And is always grammatically correct.  And I love that.

Special Delivery.  It's been a rough few months for Kelli and I'm nominating her not only because she's a good writer and tells her story well, but because I want you to click on her blog and then say a prayer for her, for her IF's and her family.

Their Bun My Oven.  Tiffany has been a surrogate and is working on a new journey.  She's pre-heating the oven right now and will be transferring soon!

I want that!! (cravings)

The cravings are ever increasing.

I see or think about a food, and I have to have it.  And it's not one particular thing; it's a lot of different things.  And it's not like I have to have it RIGHT THAT SECOND.  I can wait.  But I have to have it eventually.

Or I get crabby.

And then when I have it, I'm fine.  And typically don't need that particular food again (unless it's uber tasty).  And I don't need to have a lot of it.  Just a smidge and I'm golden.

Here are some samples of foods that I've either thought about or have seen that I've had to make sure was on my shopping list:

Strawberry Smoothie.  Now, don't be knocking my "easy way out" on this.  I did, in fact, purchase this Dole product.  And it was awesome.  And I will be purchasing more.

Not just any salt & vinegar chips.  They have to be CAPE COD brand.
They are the best.  Cannot be beat.

Whole grain toast with raspberry jam.  Not jelly.  Jam.  I had this for breakfast this morning.  My husband, Mr. Fried Eggs and potatoes, was not a fan of his plate of toast.  I, however, was a happy girl.

Pioneer Woman's flat apple pie.  She made this on her show on Saturday and I will be making this today.  I'll let you know how it is.
Here's the recipe in case you'd like to take a looky.
Holy crap, I really wish I didn't have to make it.  I want it NOW!

Oh, and I do have one more photo to share.  It's of the little monkey growing in my belly!! This was from the last ultrasound (at 10 weeks):

Something I love...#2

I'm a Food Network addict.  I love nearly every show on it (except those cake competitions--I think those are kinda boring).

10 weeks!!

You heard right, folks. 10 weeks already!

And as a celebratory act, I had an ultrasound today!! Okay, it wasn’t by choice, but ultrasounds are often quite awesome and I was happy to have one.

And I saw the little bean. And he/she is perfect! The heart rate was 168 and “it” is measuring 10 weeks, 2 days.

The RE said I was doing “great work” and he was sad to not see me anymore. And the reason??? I’VE BEEN RELEASED TO MY OB!!

Yahoo!!

Not that I'm excited to leave the RE (their office was always great), but I'm excited to go back to a doc that I know.  That knows me.  That delivered all 3 of my kids.  That plays Styx songs in the exam room while he examines me (seriously, he does this).  My doc rocks and I'm happy to set up my once a month date with him for the next few months.

Oh, and some more good news—as of today, I’m a weaner!! I officially start weaning off the meds! In 2 weeks, I’ll be done with everything but the daily vitamin.

Can I get a Ya and a Hoo please??

Something I love...#1

I decided that I love a lot of things.  Okay, maybe I didn't decide it.  Life did.  But maybe I just realized it?  I didn't realize I love things.  I realized I love A LOT of things.

Yeah sure, I love my family and my friends, but there's lots more I love.  And I want to share that with you.

So, I will be randomly posting about things I love.  Just one thing/product/group/thingamajig in each post.  Because I want you to know the things that make me happy.  And maybe they can make you happy too.

So, without further adieu, here is my first post.  (and my posts will be in totally random order)

I love....

Whew!

I say "whew" because my life is absolute insanity right now.  It's not so much personal as it is work.  You see, the short of it is that I work at an insurance company.  75% of our clients either begin their insurance coverage on January 1st or renew on January 1st.

So January 1st is a swear word for me.  It's evil.

I won't complain too much (okay, too late) because busy means new business and retention of old, which is always great.  But, it makes for very long hours and lots of headaches on my part.

It will get better.

Hopefully.

Right now just blows.

Outside of my work insanity, life is good.

As of yesterday, I am 9 weeks pregnant.  Yeah, 9 weeks.  Crazy, right?  The pregnancy is going good.  I feel decent, minus the fact that I get pretty queasy if I don't have something in my stomach.  So, I've been a big fan of mini-saltine crackers (have you ever seen these things?? They're super cute) and animal crackers.  I've been at the stage where if I hear about a certain food or see it, I crave it.  For instance, I saw a photo of some chocolate chip cookies tonight.  I immediately went to the store and bought the supplies I needed to make them.  And they are awesome.  Someone mentioned Q Doba the other day and I had to make a pit stop to get some.  I think my family is digging the reaping of benefits of my cravings.

I rented a fetal heartbeat monitor doppler thing (sorry, I don't know the real technical term for it)!  For all 3 of my own kids, I rented the throughout the entire pregnancy (yeah, I know...by now I could have bought about 3 of them with as much as I've paid).  Seriously, though, I'm a big fan.  I absolutely LOVE to hear a baby's heartbeat.  It came yesterday and though they say it's better to wait about 10-11 weeks to attempt to hear it, I had to try.  And after about 3 minutes I found it--so beautiful!!  There's a record mechanism on it so I plan to try to download and send to the guys :)  Nothing better than hearing your own child's heartbeat.

And finally, I leave with my thoughts for 2012.  For obvious reasons, it's going to be a great year.  I have been really thinking hard about resolutions for this coming year.  And I couldn't really think of any that meant anything or that I knew I could stick to.  And I'm not about to promise myself something for 2 days and be over it.

I was talking to my boss today and he said a good friend of his gave him advice years ago--keep your resolutions to one word.  That's it.  I thought about this and decided to completely copy my boss in his one-word resolution that he shared with me today.

Focus.

It's a good word.  A fantastic one if you really think about it.  And one that I will use and apply as often as I can.

But for now, I'm going to focus on some TV and my chocolate chip cookies.
